Abstract

In this work the scaffolds were made by foam replication method. The results from SEM showed that scaffolds with and without coating have high porosity and well-interconnected pore structure, and the polymer coating caused a significant increase in the mechanical properties from 0.01 Mpa to 0.19 Mpa. This coating also had a significant effect on the reduction of the contact angle, which due to the presence of Cs. The bioactivity in simulated body fluid (SBF) have shown that polymer coating did not have any negative effect on the bioactivity of the scaffolds. The results of Antibacterial test on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria on the scaffolds with PHB/Cs coating were observed. The results of cell compatibility showed that the growth and adhesion of MG63 cells on the scaffolds with PHB/Cs coating were higher. The results of this study represented that 45S5 bioglass/titania based scaffold with PHB/Cs coating is a promising candidate for bone tissue engineering applications.
