Abstract
Objective: The present comprehensive systematic review was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of workplace nutritional intervention on adult employee's cardiometabolic risk factors including anthropometric measures, glycemia indices, and lipid profile using the randomized controlled trials. Methods: Selected electronic databases including ISI Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed were systematically searched from the earliest available date up to July 2021. The PICOS (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, Study design) components of the current systematic review were as follows: P (Adult worker), I (nutritional interventions including education interventions, counseling, and environmental interventions), C (usual care or usual dietary advice), O (cardiometabolic risk factors including a lipid profile, glycemia indices, and anthropometric measures), S (randomized controlled trials). Results: A total of 8 studies involving 1800 participants were included in this systematic review. The eligible studies were conducted between 1983 to 2020. Our study suggests that nutrition intervention in the workplace seems to be more beneficial in improving LDL-C and HDL-C. Conclusions: On the basis of what was discussed, it seems that nutrition intervention is more effective in improving LDL-C and HDL-C than other risk factors. However, further good-quality RCTs with better methodology are called to determine this issue. The findings of the current systematic review may help investigators for future studies regarding the selection study population and nutrition intervention. © 2022 The Author(s)
