Abstract

Sex hormones affect the developmental process and play important roles in the kidney’s structure and functions. Clinical and experimental results have indicated that kidney functions are different between the genders, and they may be associated with the sex hormones, which regulate the expression and action of transporters in the nephron. In the current short review, the data banks including PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus were reviewed to achieve the published related articles regarding the role of gender and diabetes mellitus in glucose transport in renal system. © 2022 The Author(s); Published by Society of Diabetic Nephropathy Prevention.
