Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) represents a common cause of global mortality and morbidity and drives major cost to the economy and health care. Nutrition and lifestyle transitions might be one of the primary reasons for the rise in CVD risk. Therefore, it is necessary to consider these modifiable risk factors to prescribe optimal intervention. As dairy products have been an indispensable component of the human diet for hundreds of years because of their unique nutrients and important bioactive compounds, they are thought to play a beneficial role in the prevention of CVDs. However, the relationship between dairy foods intake and various health-related CVDs is controversial. The role of dairy products in the prevention or management of CVDs and some metabolic abnormalities is reviewed, such as the CVD risk factors including diabetes mellitus, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension. © 2017 Elsevier Inc.
