Investigating the Impact of a Blended Educational Program Based on Patient Safety Culture on the Professional Behavior of Nurses Working in the Burn Departments of Selected Hospitals in Isfahan City, Iran

Abstract

Background: Establishing a positive culture of patient safety is a vital step toward improving safety in healthcare settings and one of the most significant factors influencing safety culture is the professional behavior of nurses. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of a combined training program focused on safety culture on the professional behavior of nurses working in burn wards. Methods: In this semi-experimental study, the impact of a combined educational program focused on safety culture on the professional behavior of nurses was investigated. A total of 44 nurses from active clinical departments of Imam Musa Kazim Hospital in Isfahan City, Iran, were selected for participation through random sampling in 2022. Following the completion of the initial questionnaires, the safety culture training program was conducted and the questionnaires were administered again 2 weeks and two months later to the participants. The data were analyzed using SPSS software, employing descriptive statistics, analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeated measures, and a significance level set at 0.05. Findings: In the present study, the average scores for the professional behavior of nurses working in the burn departments of Imam Musa Kazim Hospital in Isfahan City were as follows: before the intervention, the score was 103.93 ± 16.20, two weeks after the intervention, it was 117.00 ± 13.53, and two months after the intervention, it was 117.68 ± 10.48. Repeated measures ANOVA indicated that the average of professional behavior scores at the three time points ‒ before the intervention, two weeks after the intervention, and 2 months after the intervention ‒ showed a significant difference (P < 0.05). Conclusion: This blended educational program, centered on safety culture, positively influenced the professional behavior scores of nurses working in burn departments. It is recommended that this method be implemented as an effective strategy to enhance professional behavior among nurses in burn wards. © 2025, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences(IUMS).
