Efficacy and safety of one anastomosis gastric bypass in long-term follow-up: a meta-analysis of studies with at least 10 years of follow-up

Abstract

Background: Data on the long-term effects of one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) are scarce. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the long-term outcomes of OAGB with a minimum of 10 years of follow-up. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, and PubMed. Two independent authors performed the selection and data extraction processes. Results: Eight retrospective studies involving a total of 1729 patients met the inclusion criteria. OAGB was associated with a mean body mass index reduction of 15.41 kg/m2 at 10 years and 13.87 kg/m2 at 15 years. Total weight loss was 31.80 at 10 years and 32.44 at 15 years, whereas excess weight loss was 75.87 and 69.81, respectively. The resolution rates of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obstructive sleep apnea were 72, 66, 67, and 86, respectively. The incidence of de novo gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was 6, and revisional surgery due to GERD occurred in 3 of patients.
