Abstract

Background: Postural disorders disrupt muscle activity and lead to joint dysfunction. Since maintaining joint function requires precise coordination and timely activation of muscles, changes in muscle activity levels result in movement disorders. The present study aimed at comparing the effect of 8 weeks of selected corrective exercises with and without Kinesio taping on the angle of kyphosis among the boy students with kyphosis. Methods: This quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design was conducted on 20 boy students aged 15 to 18 years with kyphosis. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software. Independent t-test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were used to analyze within-group and between-group comparisons in the two groups of corrective exercises with and without Kinesio taping, respectively. The significance level was set at P < 0.05. Findings: The mean kyphosis angle in the corrective exercises with Kinesio taping group was 48.8 ± 0.9° at pre-test, and after completing the exercise protocol, the mean kyphosis angle decreased to 46.9 ± 0.8°. In the corrective exercises without Kinesio taping group, the mean kyphosis angle was 49.7 ± 0.0° at pre-test, which decreased to 47.9 ± 0.8° after the exercise protocol. The results indicated that in both groups, the difference in the mean kyphosis angle between the pre-test and post-test was statistically significant, with the P-values of < 0.001 and 0.002, respectively. Conclusion: Both corrective exercise programs, using Kinesio taping and corrective exercises without it, have a positive effect on improving the kyphosis angle among the boy students with kyphosis. © 2026, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences(IUMS).
