Knowledge Translation from the Perspective of Basic and Clinical Sciences Faculty Members at the School of Medicine, Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences

Abstract

Knowledge translation is a purposeful process that facilitates the transfer of research findings to policymakers, decision-makers, and end users with the aim of improving health system performance. This study aimed to investigate the status of knowledge translation from the perspective of faculty members at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytical study included faculty members from both basic and clinical sciences who voluntarily participated after providing informed consent. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire consisting of two sections. The first section assessed participants' demographic characteristics, and the second evaluated the status of knowledge translation. The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed by a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.79. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. Results: The mean overall knowledge translation score was 2.66 ± 0.47. The mean scores for the dimensions of knowledge application, knowledge production, and audience needs assessment were 2.71 ± 0.51, 2.64 ± 0.48, and 2.57 ± 0.56, respectively, indicating a relatively favorable level of knowledge translation. A significant association was found between academic group and knowledge translation score, with faculty members in the basic sciences obtaining higher scores than those in the clinical sciences (P=0.033). Conclusion: Faculty members demonstrated a relatively favorable level of knowledge translation. However, strengthening institutional and educational infrastructures that support knowledge translation is essential. Educational programs aimed at enhancing knowledge translation skills, coupled with establishment of supportive structures that facilitate interaction between researchers and administrators are recommended to promote the effective use of research evidence in practice. © 2026, Bushehr University of Medical Sciences.
