Abstract

A range of electromagnetic frequency is related to microwave. Using microwave radiation for heating material and performance of chemical reaction has led to creation of a science called, "Microwave Chemistry. Microwave heating process is based on several mechanisms. The participation of the microwave alone in an environmental reaction is related to its physical characteristics, but application of the microwave-assisted with oxidants is based on radical production. Regarding physical characteristics, the most important of these mechanisms is the interaction of the microwave radiation with polar compounds. Also, this device led to increasing extraction and solubility of organic matters from their matrices. But most of the advantages of microwave/oxidants are related to both physical and chemical characteristics of the microwave and oxidants. According to unique characteristics, especially in heating chemical reaction, the microwave-assisted with oxidants has been found as an environmental friendly method. Here, concepts about the microwave with applications of microwave/hydrogen peroxide (MW/H2O2) in wastewater treatment have been discussed. © 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
