Abstract
In a recent issue of the journal, Li et al. (1) conducted an interesting meta-analysis to determine the association of dietary intake of linoleic acid (LA) and its biomarkers with risk of mortality. Based on 38 studies they included in the meta-analysis, they found that dietary LA intake as well as its biomarkers was inversely associated with risk of death from all causes, CVD, and cancer. These findings highlight the importance of consumption of nonhydrogenated vegetable oils, in particular those with a high content of omega-6 fatty acids, in the usual diet.
