Abstract

Background and aim: An assessment and contrast of the effects in nonsurgical retreatment and those in endodontic microsurgery with current advanced techniques is vital. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of nonsurgical endodontic retreatment and endodontic microsurgery. Method: MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, ISI, google scholar were used as electronic databases to perform a systematic literature between 2005 to 2019. A commercially available software program (Endnote X9) was used for electronic title management. Searches were performed with keywords, " nonsurgical”, " endodontic”,” endodontic microsurgery”,” Microsurgery”, " surgical” " root canal treatment”, " continual infection”, " Microscope”, " surgical” . The present systematic review was performed based on the main consideration of PRISMA Statement-Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis. Result: 9 studies (3 RCTs, 4 prospective and 2 retrospective) were included. success rate of the microsurgery was 90 (ES 33.562, 95 CI 3.278-63.77). Success rates in Retreatment was 74 (ES 75.64, 95 CI -12.68- 163.96). Success rates for the microsurgery was statistically significant (p = 0.030) and no difference was showed in Retreatment (p = 0.093). Conclusion: Endodontic microsurgery was showed as a dependable treatment choice with favorable preliminary healing and a predictable final Results. © 2019, Advanced Scientific Research.
