Investigating and Comparing Knowledge, Attitude and Performance of Staff of Seyed-o-Shohada Hospital in Isfahan in Relation to Hand Hygiene

Abstract

Background: Despite the importance of hand hygiene in reducing hospital infections, in previous studies, the level of commitment to this issue has not been reported as favorable; Based on this, the study was conducted with the aim of determining and comparing the knowledge, attitude and performance of Staff of Seyed-o-Shohada Hospital in Isfahan in relation to hand hygiene. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 178 Staff of Seyed-o-Shohada Hospital in Isfahan in the internal, surgical, pediatric and ICU departments in 2022. The data collection tool was a checklist including demographic information, 11 knowledge questions, 10 attitude questions, and 31 performance questions. Data were reported using descriptive statistics. Findings: According to the findings of the study, the average score of awareness was 1.5 ± 7.35, attitude score was 4 ± 27.35 and performance score (total behavior score) was 29.2 ± 69.80. The score of knowledge and performance was good and the score of attitude was reported as average. Conclusion: Considering that the study was conducted on medical staff, it is expected that these people are more important than hand hygiene. In this regard, the commitment of doctors in relation to hand hygiene was less compared to other Staff.
